Overview

[68Ga]Ga-anti-integrin peptide (specifically [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-C6-anti-integrin peptide) is a novel radiolabeled peptide-based diagnostic imaging agent developed by researchers in Brazil, including the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and the Santa Casa de São Paulo School of Medical Sciences, in collaboration with the CancerThera research center. The agent consists of an anti-integrin peptide conjugated to the chelator DOTA via a 3-aminocaproic acid (C6) spacer and radiolabeled with the positron-emitting radionuclide gallium-68 ([68Ga]). It selectively targets integrin αvβ3, a cell surface receptor overexpressed in glioblastoma and other highly angiogenic tumors. Preclinical studies demonstrate that the tracer successfully crosses the blood-brain barrier, accumulates in glioblastoma cells, and is cleared via the kidneys, highlighting its potential as a PET/CT imaging probe for tumor detection, boundary definition, and treatment monitoring.
